On Top Of The Game: Dominic Williams
Editor’s note: In this two-part installment, Mile High Hoops features profiles on two of the top returning seniors in the state. This weekend, we’re examining Lincoln High School’s Dominic Williams. On Monday, Pueblo East point guard Jordan Gregory will be featured.

Season Honors: All-Colorado, The Denver Post; 5A First Team All-State, The Denver Post; Participant, The Show All-Star Game.
The high school basketball season did not end the way Abraham Lincoln senior-to-be Dominic Williams hoped for. That’s why, after a disappointing Sweet 16 exit from the state tournament, Williams this summer trained with Division 1 college players.
Williams, who already plays club ball with the Colorado Chaos, practiced with former Lincoln star and 4A player of the year Francisco Cruz this summer. Cruz recently signed with Wyoming after a sensational run at Western Nebraska Community College where he averaged 20 points and six rebounds per game.
The duo is also training with University of California guard Jorge Gutierrez.
“This (was) a big summer for Dom,” said Lincoln coach Vince Valdez.
Valdez said “getting his butt kicked” by the older players will improve Williams’ game and give him the belief that he can play Division 1.
Williams has always shown a willingness to work hard and develop his game. He was the only junior to be named to the Denver Post’s All-Colorado team, and 5A first team. He was also the only non-senior to play in The Show—an end of season all-star game played at the Pepsi Center.
“That shows he’s one of the state’s elite, and he understands that he needs to continue to work,” Valdez said.
Colleges have taken note of Williams and his abilities. Valdez said he has spoken on more than one occasion to representatives from Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado, Boise State, Idaho, Liberty and New Mexico.
“He definitely has the skill set to play this game at that level,” Valdez said.
If Williams maintains his dedication and improves his midrange game, Lincoln will be a major threat and could vie for a state championship.
